As someone who’s spent a considerable amount of time in transit, I’ve come to appreciate the little things that make travel smoother. One such item is the humble luggage tag. It might seem insignificant, but trust me, when you’re staring at a carousel of similar-looking suitcases, that small tag is a lifesaver. So, how do you properly attach a luggage tag? Let’s break it down.
Step 1: Select the Right Luggage Tag
Before we get to the attachment, let’s talk about choosing a luggage tag. It should be sturdy, easily identifiable, and have a clear display area for your contact information. While I personally prefer leather tags for their durability, there are countless options to choose from.
Step 2: Fill Out Your Information
Most luggage tags come with a paper insert where you can write down your details. Make sure your name, phone number, and email address are clearly written. While some people include their home address, I tend to leave it out for privacy reasons.
Step 3: Secure the Tag to Your Luggage
Now, onto the actual attachment. Your luggage tag will likely come with a strap or a loop. Here’s how to attach it:
Thread the loop through the handle of your suitcase: Slide the thinner end of the loop through the top handle of your suitcase. Make sure it’s the handle that you’ll be using most often – this is usually the one at the top, not the side.
Secure the tag: Take the part of the loop that you’ve just threaded through and pass it through the hole in the other end of the loop.
Tighten the loop: Pull the loop until the luggage tag is snug against the handle. Ensure the tag is facing outwards so your information is easily visible.
Step 4: Double-Check the Attachment
Give the tag a little tug to make sure it’s secure. The last thing you want is for your tag to fall off during handling.
Step 5: Add an Inside Tag
As a bonus tip, I often place an extra tag inside my suitcase with the same information. This is a backup in case the external tag gets lost or damaged.
And there you have it! A properly attached luggage tag can bring peace of mind and make your luggage easier to spot. As a bonus, it adds a personal touch to your travel gear. Happy tagging!
